About Douglas Campbell OBE

I was born in 1948 and as a result of polio in 1952 I am disabled and a full time wheelchair user.

I qualified as a chartered accountant in 1972 and remained in professional practice until 1995.  Most of that time I worked for myself.  I then worked as CEO of The Disabled Drivers’ Association for 10 years.  More recently I have worked for The Disability Resource Centre in Dunstable where, for four years, I headed up the service supporting disabled people to purchase care or employ their own PAs (carers) using direct payments from local authorities.  Now semi-retired I plan to do some consultancy work and some voluntary work.

I have been involved in the disability sector since around 1966.  Much of my work has been involved with campaigning for proper independent mobility for disabled people.  I was appointed OBE in 2002 for services to the mobility of disabled people.

I live in Milton Keynes, which I have seen grow from three small towns to a growing small and comprehensive city since my family moved here in 1961.

I am an active member of the Rotary Club of Milton Keynes and was President in 2012-13.
